The FTB just notified California tax professionals of a new email phishing scam targeting tax pros.

The scheme targets CPAs, EAs and tax preparers who use Electronic Return Originator (ERO). The scammers say they work with or They will contact tax professionals after they have determined which ERO the professional is using to transmit tax returns. The scammer will call the tax practitioner and ask the ERO to reinstall their software to fix issues. They will connect the professional to their website and get a passcode for them, which gives the scammer control of the professionals computer. They basically take over the professionals account.
