New IRS Federal Registered Tax Return Preparer (RTRP) CPE Guidelines Released

The Internal Revenue Service has announced the standards to become an IRS-approved continuing education (CE) provider and the requirements to become an IRS CE accredited organization.  The guidance paves the way for the implementation of new CE requirements for certain tax return preparers starting next year.

Individuals who are required to take the registered tax return preparer (RTRP) competency test before the end of 2013 must begin completing CE courses in 2012. The 15-hour annual requirement consists of 10 hours of federal tax law topics, three hours of tax law updates and two hours of ethics and/or professional conduct training. Preparers must take the courses from IRS-approved providers.

ClientWhys is a current IRS-approved provider for enrolled agents. We also will become accredited under the new federal program. We have already been working on our new course material that will be released in January 2012.  We will be creating a course that not only meets the new requirements but also prepares tax preparers and enrolled agents for the tax season. Our new course material will include our downloadable eBook that you can use as a reference tool throughout the year.

Our new course offerings will replace our Krusemark Pub 17 line of CPE courses. We offer courses for the following professionals:

  • California Registered Tax Professionals - Our low-cost, IRS Approved Krusemark courses are the best way to meet your annual CTEC CPE requirements. We are excited about our new course offerings and will be sending current clients updates as we release the new editions.

Please note that all current Krusemark Pub 17 courses must be completed by December 31, 2011 to cover the new IRS course guidelines. Self-study programs requiring only the reading of general professional literature, IRS publications or reference manuals, even if followed by a test, are not acceptable after 12-31-2011.
